Local files and your AI connection
Your company file and backups stay on your computer or in a backup location you choose. When a hosted AI reads Nani tools, the data returned by those tools goes to that provider under your account and its terms. A local connector is not the same as a local AI model.
With Ollama or LM Studio running a model on this computer, AI processing can stay local. Use Check where it runs to check that setup.
What was sent records requests made through Nani’s own AI connection. For Claude Desktop, ChatGPT or Codex, also review the connected app’s conversation and provider settings.
What the AI can see
Your AI reads your books only through Nani's tools, and only when it asks: the company's basics, your chart of accounts, uncategorized transactions, Interview questions, reports Nani computes (profit and loss, balance sheet, cash flow and more), the year-end checklist, your rules, its own earlier suggestions, transaction search, statements, customers and vendors, a business snapshot and your invoices.
- Account and card numbers are masked. Any long number in a bank description, memo or file name shows only its last four digits. Shorter numbers like store or check numbers stay.
- It never sees full tax ID numbers, your passphrase, your API key or your settings.
- Bank-written text is labeled untrusted, and the AI is told never to follow instructions inside it.
- Nani computes every total itself; the AI is told not to do your arithmetic.
- What was sent shows requests sent through Nani’s own AI connection, including destination, model and request contents.
